Transformation on the Pitch: Tony's Experience with CP Soccer

When Tony's family first learned about The Bridge Adaptive Sports & Recreation through an adaptive sports clinic at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, they couldn't have predicted the profound impact it would have on their son. Their initial foray into the world of adaptive sports began with CP Soccer, an event that marked the beginning of Tony's transformative journey.

Adaptive Sports Create Community for Athletes with Disabilities

From his first soccer practice, Tony's sense of belonging was palpable. "The minute he hit that field, he felt a sense of belonging, where he fit in, and you could see a change in him before your eyes," his mother recalls. This moment is her favorite memory, a time when she witnessed her son blossom and grow in confidence and joy.

Since then, Tony has embraced a variety of sports, from rock climbing, which he thoroughly enjoyed and is eager to try again, to participating in events like the Soar Expo, Top Soccer Fall Classic, and the Toca Adaptive Soccer Clinic. Looking ahead to 2025, Tony is excited about the possibility of attending more events offered by The Bridge.

"The minute he hit that field, he felt a sense of belonging, where he fit in, and you could see a change in him before your eyes."

The reason Tony and his family keep returning to The Bridge events is clear. "We love seeing the pride Tony has in himself each time he accomplishes a new challenge," his mother shares. This sense of achievement is pivotal, fueling Tony's continued enthusiasm and participation.

For other families considering The Bridge events, Tony's mother has a simple yet powerful piece of advice: "Give it a shot! You never know what your child is capable of and what they can accomplish until you try different things." She emphasizes how The Bridge has not only allowed Tony to engage in the same experiences as other children but also adapted to his limitations, significantly enhancing his confidence and abilities.

Tony's story is a testament to the transformative power of adaptive sports and the supportive community at The Bridge. His journey from a hesitant newcomer to a confident athlete is not just inspiring—it's a vivid illustration of how adaptive sports can open up a world of possibilities for children with disabilities.
