The Bridge is a good experience and outlet for people in my condition to get out. [Some people] don’t know necessarily what to do, but a program like this is definitely a good outreach for getting out and exploring your abilities. - Bart Burgess, Bridge Athlete
Access in Action:
Expand What’s Possible

From now throughout Disability Pride Month, The Bridge Adaptive Sports & Recreation is launching Access in Action, a campaign to increase opportunities for athletes with disabilities to play, compete, and perform.

Today, our programs, equipment, and volunteers are spread across multiple locations, creating barriers to growth and limiting the number of athletes we can serve.
Having a dedicated home base in Northside, a suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio, will change that. We're so pleased to announce that this new location is now a reality, and we can begin putting down roots where more growth is inevitable.

With a centralized hub, we can expand year-round programming, provide athletes with easier access to specialized equipment, create more opportunities to trial sports before investing in their own gear, and foster meaningful connections among athletes, families, and volunteers.

This space will allow us to serve more people, maintain and fit adaptive equipment, host community gatherings, and create a welcoming environment where access turns into action every day.

Right now, your impact goes even further. Thanks to the generous support of The LaRosa Family Foundation, every dollar donated will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $20,000.

When you give to Access in Action, you’re not funding a building. You’re creating more opportunities for individuals with disabilities to move, connect, and discover what’s possible through sport.

Make your gift today and help build a future where every athlete has access to play.

For individuals with disabilities, we aim to be a bridge from the hospital to the community, being sedentary to active, unequipped to fully fitted, and so on. We break down barriers to accessing sport and recreation in three primary ways:
-
In conjunction with local and national organizations, we host regular “Try-It” events that allow people to try things like adaptive skiing or adaptive mountain biking at no cost and low commitment.
-
We have a bank of used adaptive sports equipment that we loan out to allow athletes to try a sport before spending thousands of dollars on purchasing their own equipment.
-
We train the community and other providers in adaptive sports to increase the network of people comfortable working with individuals with disabilities.
One of our core beliefs is that this work doesn't have to be easy, it just has to be possible. You can see details about our expansion and accomplishments in 2024 right here in our annual Impact Report. The Bridge plans to build on our success to continue providing and growing a welcoming community for athletes with disabilities.
Ways to Give
Recurring Donation:
A commitment to give a specified amount at regular intervals, such as monthly or annually. Suitable for donors who wish to provide continuous support, helping organizations plan and budget effectively.
One-time Donation:
A straightforward, single contribution that can be made at any time. Ideal for those who want to make an immediate impact without a long-term commitment.
Legacy or Planned Giving:
Consider supporting our cause through planned giving or by donating stocks and securities. This method not only ensures your legacy of generosity lives on but also offers potential tax benefits, making it a wise choice for both your financial planning and philanthropic impact.
Fundraising:
Participating in or organizing events designed to raise money, from charity runs to gala dinners. Engages communities and networks in supporting a cause, often adding a social or fun element to philanthropy.
Matching Gifts:
Many employers offer to match donations made by their employees, effectively doubling the impact. Maximizes the impact of a donation through employer matching programs, doubling or even tripling the contribution.
In-Kind Contributions:
Donating goods or services instead of money, such as professional expertise or necessary equipment. Offers a way to support an organization through services or goods, which can be especially helpful when cash donations are not feasible.
